It was a different time and place when Sarah Greesonbach of B2B Writing Institute originally reached out to me and asked me to be a guest on her podcast.
Remember that life before March 2020, when we could still go to conferences, meet people for coffee, and attend local networking events in person? It all feels distant and hazy now, but I have some fond memories that I’m pretty sure aren’t mere figments of my imagination.
When we’d initially discussed the topic of building your network as a B2B writer, I was thinking about a combination of in-person and online activities. But when we sat down to do our interview in mid-April, the shelter in place order here in California (and other similar measures throughout the rest of the US) meant that we needed to shift our focus.
In our discussion—which you can watch below or listen to by clicking here—we cover a range of topics, including:
- The idea of abundance mindset and why it helps you with networking and running your freelance business in general
- How a group of like-minded peers can give you superpowers (even when you don’t live in the same city or even the same country)
- Why LinkedIn is the ideal platform for networking and building your business (and a quick plug for my course that’s available on Skillshare and Udemy and can help you build out your profile and your business)
- The best (and worst) ways to make friends online
Check it out and let me know what you think! How has your approach to networking changed over the past several months? Have any tips for networking in a mostly online world?
